Podcast on UltimateFoodie.com
A shout-out to Wade Tonkin and Karen Garcia of the West Coast culinary blog UltimateFoodie.com. They are coming to Boston for a trade show in a couple of weeks and figured that the best way to get psyched up for the visit was to interview locals who know where to eat and drink. They tasked me with recommending bars near the Seaport Hotel and the World Trade Center, where the trade show’s taking place. A somewhat tough assignment, given that that neighborhood still has a ways to go before it can be described as bustling, but I did my best. I also got to recommend some great beer bars and the stellar Eastern Standard.

Lauren, thanks for appearing with us. I think that Eastern Standard is going to get a lot of attention from the folks at our tradeshow.
Take care,
Wade Tonkin

Cool, Wade. Note that ES is right near Fenway Park and tends to attract large crowds before and after ball games. Not that these guys can’t handle a packed house, but just a warning if you’re looking for a less lively scene. Go to redsox.com to check the game schedule. And have a blast in Boston!

Lucky’s Lounge is the best bar in the area, perhaps followed by the hotel bar at the Renaissance, then the Westin, then Legal Test Kitchen, Salvatore’s, Morton’s.
Yankee Lobster and Amrhein’s are good places to eat with character.

Thanks for weighing in, Bob. I’ve been meaning to check out Lucky’s, although I’m wary — they go on about channeling the spirit of Sinatra, yet there’s nothing on their cocktail menu that the Chairman of the Board would actually drink…
