It's a shame about Miami. It was cool for awhile, and it really is beautiful, but it's just been filled with such LCD Americans - it's Orlando for the flavored vodka set with no kids to Disney-fy. 10 years ago you could still experience the cool of North Miami, where the scene was happening in the 50's and 60's (thanks to Gleason, James Bond and the Rat Pack), or the Googie motels of Sunny Iles. Sad about the Fountainbleu and Eden Roc. The bars at The Raleigh and the Delano always had a touch of '40's class to them. The drive to Coral Gables is always worth it (keep out of those cabs, though!). There's still a few nice, tiny deco places on the sidestreets, but for the most part, like so much of America these days, its a bunch of people thinking they're celebrities on their own reality show. Pitiful.
